My thoughts about Windows, Mac, and Linux... and other topics I'm inclined to discuss

FreeBSD 8.0 is ready
FreeBSD 8.0 was officially released today. FreeBSD is a Unix-like operating system which is supposed to be very fast and stable. I'm currently downloading it and, who knows, maybe I'll be able to figure out how to get it installed. I don't think it has a "next next next done" installer and hopefully there's an easy way to install a desktop environment.

Rant: U2 Concert
U2 is coming to Montreal next July. Normally this isn't a problem, and I'm sure their fans are very excited for it. But this time, instead of playing at the Bell Centre, they're playing at the Hippodrome De Montreal. The seating there isn't enough to fit all of the people who'd come to the concert, so they're going to be building seating and a stage for them to perform at.
The cost of the seating and stage: $3,000,000!
The amount of time that the stage will be put to use: A few hours!
Isn't Bono a humanitarian? Isn't there somewhere else that the 3 million should be going to? Possibly to the starving children?
Seriously. Building a $3,000,000 stage set, using it for one day, then destroying it and building condos and/or offices in its place. This is ridiculous.

Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Review
Ubuntu. A linux distribution which needs no introduction, but I'll give one anyway.
Ubuntu is an african word meaning "Humanity to others". Ubuntu is currently the most popular linux distribution, thanks to its ease of use, simplicity, and superb hardware detection. Ubuntu also has a very large community forum, which means that it's fairly easy to get help in solving problems that may arise. Ubuntu offers security updates and patches for each standard release for 1.5 years after it is released. There are also LTS (Long Term Support) releases every 2 years. The LTS releases are supported for 3 years on the desktop edition, and for 5 years on the server edition. The next release, Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), will be an LTS release. Each version is numbered as x.yy, where x is the last digit of the year, and y is the month eg. 9.10 . The codename is an alliteration with an adjective and an animal, with the first letter of each corresponding to the number of releases. For example, Karmic Koala is the 11th release of Ubuntu.
